FOXCONN is Bad for Wisconsin Part #2

FOXCONN is bad for Wisconsin BLUF part #2

Is FOXCONN bad for Wisconsin? Why do we give millions to sports teams? Why was it ok for President Obama to give millions to Solyndria? Why is it a good practice for Governor Andrew Cuomo of NY to offer tax incentives to companies? How many dollars is Wisconsin actually handing to FOXCONN? Should the Wisconsin Democrats oppose this, and if they do what does that say? What if the Republicans are wrong? I’m confused because I think it should be what is best for Wisconsin, or am I wrong?

TRICKLE DOWN: Ouch that must hurt the ears of the liberal progressive community. The term TRICKLE DOWN is like squeaking chalk on a blackboard for those old enough to remember the sound. Once FOXCONN is up and running its estimated that it will require $4.26 billion in supplier purchases annually, with about 33% from Wisconsin suppliers. There will be businesses that will spring up that do not exist today which will support the workers and the business. (NOTE: These businesses will employ people and all will pay taxes) FOXCONN will partner with Milwaukee’s Rockwell Automation and some other Wisconsin companies named are Scanalytics Inc. of Milwaukee and another is Akitabox of Madison to name a few.

TAXES: The average salary before benefits is said to be $53,000 per year so the taxes paid to Wisconsin is $2,300 X 3000 employees is $6,900,000, and if they actually employ 13,000 employees that is $29,900,000. Do not forget the other businesses that will employ additional employees and new businesses which will all employ additional people who pay taxes. It is estimated that between FOXCONN and ancillary support businesses over 20,000 tax paying jobs will be created in Wisconsin, all paying taxes.

WISCONSIN PAID: How much money did Wisconsin actually give to FOXCONN? According to what I read the billions referred to are labeled as tax credits for jobs created, credits for capital investment and sales tax exemptions on construction materials, and pay no corporate sales on products made here. So Wisconsin gave FOXCONN no actual dollars up front but to lure FOXCONN, Wisconsin will have a windfall of taxes paid by support business and their employees, plus FOXCONN employees. If FOXCONN was not in Wisconsin those 20,000 employees would not be paying taxes to Wisconsin. Trickle down??

CAUTION: Senator Hanson of Green Bay was criticized but he spoke of caution because FOXCONN has a history of over promising and under performing. Examples are commitment to Brazil to invest $12 billion but never came close, they committed to spend $5 billion in the Indian state of Maharashtra so far nothing, FOXCONN was to invest $10 billion in Indonesia but shaved that down to $1 billion, and four years ago they claimed they would spend $30 million on a Pennsylvania plant but failed to follow through.

AUTOMATION: Certainly every business that can is using (converting to) automation today and so will FOXCONN. But if automation was the answer FOXCONN would have remained in those other countries. One element cited besides the tax incentives was the work ethic of Wisconsin workers.

CONCERN: Wisconsin unemployment is at 3.2% so my fear is that there will not be enough Wisconsin residents. Illinois, specifically Chicago is just across the border so how many will come from the south and how many will actually move to Wisconsin. If they move to Wisconsin will they bring their liberal progressive desires with them?

OPTIMISM: As I understand it Wisconsin will never actually give FOXCONN any dollars but at the same time will not collect tax dollars from FOXCONN. The company and supporting business will employ around 20,000 tax paying Wisconsinites. No FOXCONN in Wisconsin and 20,000 people are not paying taxes in Wisconsin.  What about new homes and apartments to house workers that choose to live in the area?

We do not know, what we do not know, but I have always lived by the phrase, “it is better to attempt to something great and fail, than to do nothing at all and succeed.”

FOXCONN is Bad for Wisconsin Part #1

FOXCONN is bad for Wisconsin BLUF

Is FOXCONN bad for Wisconsin? Why do we give millions to sports teams? Why was it ok for President Obama to give millions to Solyndria? Why is it a good practice for Governor Andrew Cuomo of NY to offer tax incentives to companies? How many dollars is Wisconsin actually handing to FOXCONN? Should the Wisconsin Democrats oppose this, and if they do what does that say? What if the Republicans are wrong? I’m confused because I think it should be what is best for Wisconsin, or am I wrong?

THE DIFFERENCE IS WHO: Why is it good for Democrats like Governor Cuomo or President Barrack Obama to give money to businesses, but not ok for a Republican Governor like Scott Walker. Even the non-partisan State Superintendent of Public Instruction TONY EVERS came out against FOXCONN. I thought it was funny because Evers is non-partisan, embedded inside his e-mail tirade was an opportunity for you to give money to his campaign for Governor.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: May 2010 Solyndra is visited by President Obama and while there, Obama said, “Leading the way toward a brighter and more prosperous future.” During this same highly publicized appearance by the President he exclaimed the success story from the government’s $787 billion stimulus package.

OH NO, SEE MY SHOCKED FACE: August 2011 Obama’s poster child for Green Energy declared bankruptcy. What caused this after all of the federal money pumped into this selected for success business. Solyndra CEO Brian Hanson stated, “Regulatory and policy uncertainties in recent months created significant near-term excess supply and price erosion.” SEE MY SHOCKED FACE when I realized for the first time that government control failed.

MAKES YOU WISH FOR THE SOVIET UNION: Reminds me of the days when the Soviet Union dictated how much and what to produce which left the masses with nothing or not enough. I know the left leaning progressives hate it but good old American Capitalism and free market is still the best.

COUNTRIES, STATES AND CITIES COMPETE: Cities give sports teams millions to relocate or to remain in their city. Why? Because of the supporting industry and jobs needed to support the team and stadium. In the late 1990’s the argument in Wisconsin was about building a new stadium to keep the Milwaukee Brewers. At that time my children were young and once each summer we would get tickets for a 3 game series. We would get a hotel in Milwaukee within walking distance of the zoo. The kids could jump in the pool, we would go to the zoo and other locations and at night we went to the baseball game plus ate at several restaurants while in town. Without the baseball team, we would just drive down and back, so lost income for the supporting businesses.

CORPORATE WELFARE: Some that wish to disparage call it corporate welfare. On the other side of the pancake its jobs, to construct the building, to support the business when it is up and running, and the jobs for the employees of the business. The problem with those who look at this as bad is they view everything in a vacuum and only see the jobs inside the plants.

Part #2 will use the term TRICKLE DOWN!!!!

Are they Immigrants or Migrants Part #3

Are they Immigrants or Migrant Workers #3

Are they immigrants? Are they Migrant Workers? Do they want to assimilate and become Americans? Are they illegal immigrants? Are they undocumented aliens? Are they just political pawns?

THE PLAN I PROPOSE: I propose a plan with three lines of effort, build the wall, document and educate.

BUILD WALL: Build a wall with controlled entries. Build a wall that is wide enough to be patrolled on both sides of the border, with modern electric sensors that can detect tunneling and of course drones and border guards to observe.

DOCUMENT: America will deport criminals but America will not deport 11 million illegal/undocumented migrant workers. My suggestion is to use the military (United States Army Reserve and the National Guard). This has been done many times in the past. One example is the 1980 Cuban Mariel Boatlift running from April thru October 1980 resulting in 125,000 Cuban refugees. These refugees were brought to places like Ft. McCoy Wisconsin and processed by the WI National Guard. Ft. McCoy and other places like it became the Ellis Island of today interviewing, documenting, physical check-ups by military doctors and legal assistance by military lawyers etc. HOW TO ACCOMPLISH: Announce the dates and locations for undocumented migrants to appear in person. (NOTE: The military can provide central pick up points to assist) If sanctuary cities etc. do not cooperate, FEDERAL MONEY MUST BE WITHHELD! Next be certain to enforce the law and prosecute every public official that gives instruction to employees not to cooperate. Pass a law to prosecute employers for using undocumented migrant workers and then prosecute these employers.

EDUCATION: I have read stories about how legal immigrants to America conducted school’s to educate their children but also sent their children to local public schools. Some argue that public schools should only teach English but that is illegal. (NOTE: In 1974 the Supreme Court decision Lau v. Nichols in a decision that stated San Francisco was violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964.) San Francisco failed to provide Chinese instruction for several thousand Chinese students that did not understand English. There is much confusion regarding this ruling and how it was to be implemented. The bottom line is that public education must meet the needs to non-English speaking students. Q#1: would it be so wrong for the non-English speaking students to also have concurrent classes in English. Q#2: Would it be so wrong to teach about what has made America great, which by the way is why so many immigrants from around the world try to get to America. (NOTE: new laws combined with federal funding can assure educational programs are implemented.)

PROPAGANDA: There are studies showing that follow on generations do learn English. Many of the migrant workers work in the farm fields, hotel staff, lawn care etc. all associated with unions. The unions speak to the Migrant workers in Spanish and do not always tell them the truth or if that term is to strong let us say they do not tell the whole story. Organizations like La Raza which has been around since 1972 does not like the Democrats or Republicans but supports the Democrats more so than Republicans. (NOTE: I believe that if these migrants became U.S. Citizens and understood what was going on they would be conservative) LaRaza is not for America and it is not for Mexico, LaRaza is for LaRaza. In the same way I have always felt that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were fakers and were paid to deliver votes to the Democrats and never truly cared about the Black Americans they claimed to represent. Why do I say that? They are both multi-millionaires and how did they earn this? (“Over the generations, black leaders have ranged from noble souls to shameless charlatans.” Thomas Sowell) Documenting all of the undocumented migrant workers and ensuring that each person know the truth (or where they can find it) will help them. Without this ability to find out what is truth they are stuck just like a slave to what is told to them by the Spanish speaking organizations and media that control the message to these hard working people. (“Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave.” Frederick Douglas)

TRUTH WILL SET YO FREE: During the documentation and education processing of migrant and actual immigrants these individuals will learn how and where to go to get the truth removing the stress and fear they live with today. When Johann Gutenberg invented the movable-type printing press in 1455 and printed the Bible the common man learned to read, this knowledge of the Bible removed power from Rome and the Pope and spread it to the masses. The truth will set you free. (“Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.” George Washington Carver)

CONCLUSION: #1 – We are a country of laws and we must enforce them. #2 – We must build a complete wall along the Mexican – American border. #3 – We must not deport the 11 million illegal undocumented migrant workers in this country, but we must bring them out of the shadows to save them from those that wish to keep them as slaves. #4 – We must educate everyone to include our own children about the United States and what makes this country special in the world which is why people risk their lives to get here. #5 – We must also educate at the college level. #6 – I believe that this can all be accomplished by establishing laws and controlling federal funding to municipalities and institutions. #7 – Prosecution of all or any that break the laws of this country (SANTURARY CITIES & ELECTED OFFICIALS ETC.)

POLITICAL PAWNS: These migrant workers are human beings and are not political pawns (SLAVES). Concurrent to doing the 7 things mentioned above Congress must re-write the immigration laws. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

This concludes my 3 part series please share the website to promote conversation.

BLUF – Broken Promise Health care (Short version)

Republicans Broken Promise on Heath Care

So the Republicans asked, how do you like me now??

PRESIDENT OBAMA PROMISES MADE: Did you get to keep your health care? Did you get to keep your doctor? Did your premiums go down $2,500 per year? Did your insurance coverage at work remain the same? If you earned under $250 thousand per year did your taxes go down? President Obama said that he would not sign a bill that adds one dime to our national debt, how is that working? Have medical cost increases stopped, or are they still rising? Has Medicare been protected? President Obama said that he would sign a universal health care bill into law that would cover every American, how is that working? Obama promised that the Affordable Health Care Act will mean more choice, more competition and lower costs for millions of Americans, how is that working?

EPIC FAILURE: Led by the Maverick we all know and love, three Republicans voted NO. Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Alysia Murkowski of Alaska, and of course the MAV himself John McCain of Arizona. McCain proudly proclaimed that we three are the untouchables.

THE PROMISE: In 2010 the Tea Party supported Republicans led the way to repeal & replace. Etablishment (SWAMP) Republicans never embraced the Tea Party group. Who are establishment Republicans? I think SWAMP Republicans are the group driving 70 MPH as described by Charles Koch. In a 2015 interview, Charles Koch said that the reason he and his brother tend to support Republicans, is that the Democrats are driving the country towards a financial cliff at 100 MPH and the Republicans are only driving 70 MPH. The Tea Party and more conservative elements wish to slow or reverse course. So the swamp politicians on both sides of the isle fear the Tea Party because, it will end the career politician’s gravy train and might force them to get a job and live like the rest of us.

I LIKE IT: The Republicans promised to repeal. McCain and Lisa Murkowski both promised during their campaign to repeal. Both voted against the straight repeal with a 2 year delay. I hope that nothing more is done on health care until after the 2018 elections. Surprisingly I like the way the vote ended.

America now has the chance to decide if America continues towards the fiscal cliff at 70 to 100 MPH to do we slow down and reverse course. 2018 will be interesting.

ALL AMERICANS: Frequently laws passed by our politicians do not apply to those same politicians. Example Obama Care. Every politician and their employees receive subsidies for their insurance. If they had to pay in the same way we have to pay there would be a true effort to repeal and replace.

BOY SCOUTS MOTTO: The Boy Scout motto is “BE PREPARED”. What does the Scouting manual say this means? This means that you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty.

CONGRESS 8 YEARS: In 2010 Republicans said, give us a majority. Again in 2012, 2014, and in 2016 they got the majority, and the Presidency. Was Congress prepared? What was the plan?

FUTURE: The next election is the future. There will be 9 Republicans and 23 Democrat Senators up for reelection in 2018. America can choose to continue towards the financial cliff at 100, or reverse course.

ADVERTISE: The best advertisement against Obama Care will be new jobs, decent paying jobs, and simplified taxes. Americans have suffered with less than 2% growth for the past 8 years. President Obama is the first president since WWII to average less than 3% GDP, and will average about 1.5% GDP.

MIDDLE CLASS: In the past 8 years the middle class has earned less money. The middle class net worth has decreased. For the first time in 50 years 50% of the children in public schools are considered low income. Is this the new normal?

JOBS INCOME: Remember what Reagan asked, “Are you better off today than 4 years ago?” Not just increased jobs but better paying jobs, lower taxes resulting in increased growth to the middle class income and net worth. Millennials will join the conservative movement once they get a good paying job and can purchase a home.

OBAMA CARE: For now that is the law of the land. Later this year by law, some financial assistance will be required to bail out insurance companies; that is what the Obama Care law requires. How will the Republicans respond to that? I do not like bailing out insurance companies, but Obama Care requires the Federal government to subsidize insurance companies.

THE FIX: Let Obama Care implode and be prepared to withstand the negative media coverage sharing the Democratic talking points. Obama Care must be completely revoked. If the framework of the Obama Care Law remains in place, single payer is only one election away.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ: Be very careful what you read about single payer. Different periodicals have written about single payer etc. Follow the money and be certain that writer will not benefit from single payer. Be careful what others and social media claim are the wonderful benefits of single payer.

YOU ARE NOT THE CUSTOMER: When you go to the doctor you are not the customer, your insurance company is. You stopped being the customer when President Eisenhower signed the Revenue Act of 1954 which excluded employer contributions to employee insurance as taxable.

WANT: We do not want bail outs or government subsidies for insurance companies. We do want Congress to do what we elected them to do. We need Medicare saved and not expanded. We need more state control and less or no federal government involvement.

NOT SO BAD: After waiting 7 years it is frustrating to say the least. (REMEMBER: none of this is owned by TRUMP) When the economy begins to grow, and more people see improvement for their families America might place a majority of Conservatives in the House and the Senate.

Tweeting to the Media is like feeding chickens & fish

Tweeting to the Media is like Feeding Chickens and the Fish

Do you think the media conducts independent investigation? Or do you think the media collude with other media? Do you ever notice that many times the media and Democrats use the exact same phases and words when describing events? Did you ever feed chickens or fish? Do you see similarities between President Trump’s tweets and feeding fish or chickens?

A SMALL BOY: When I was a little boy, I remember helping my Grandmother take care of her chickens. Grandma had over 100 chickens and in the summer these chickens were allowed to be inside a fenced in area outside. Sometimes Grandma would put cracked corn in a bucket and go outside to feed the chickens. When she would toss a handful all the chickens ran toward that handful, then she would toss another handful in another direction and they would all run in that direction. I was in Iraq, and as I entered the Al Faw palace there was a pool of water filled with Asian Carp. At feeding time someone would toss food into the water and all of the fish would swim to that location, and the water would boil with feeding frenzy. This phenomenon would happen each time fish food was tossed into a new location in the pool.

FEED THE PRESS: As I observe the press pool (AKA: Main Stream Media), they remind me of my Grandma feeding chickens or the troops feeding the fish in Iraq. There are major news stories and Trump sends out a TWEET, which is just like Grandma tossing cracked corn to chickens and the press runs.

CHESS NOT CHECKERS: I have put out for several months that I felt Trump was playing chess while most everyone else was playing checkers. We saw this all during the primary and general election process.

CONSPIRACY COORDINATED TALKING POINTS: July 27, 2017, President Trump spoke to the Boy Scouts of America and several major news outlets and several Hollywood types compared the event to the famous photo of Adolph Hitler speaking to the Hitler youth. Social media is alive with negative slants on the event. Various TV shows had talking heads on who said that this was indoctrination etc. etc.

INDOCTRINATION: In our public schools today there are instances where children were taught to sing songs of praise about President Obama to the chagrin of some student’s parents. The parents compared this to brainwashing of their child. In some public schools, children are being taught that Trump is a bad man and a racist. They are taught that Brexit is wrong. This is classic brainwashing, because the teachers are an authority figure that the children see day after day. President Trump is with the Boy Scouts for a few hours.

HORSE BLINDERS: The progressive liberal democrat love to say that they believe in free speech. The truer statement is that they believe in free speech as long as it does not disagree with what they believe to be true. So according to this thinking we should all agree that what Trump did with the Boy Scouts was like Hitler, and what happens in our public schools is for the common good because they (LIBERAL PROGRESSIVES) know what is best for you and me.

CHICKEN FEED: Trump has been TWEETING about the 84th Attorney General (AG) of the United States of America Jeff Sessions. Remember when Trump said at a 2016 campaign rally that the Russians should turn over Hillary Clintons e-mails. This was a joke because she had the e-mails destroyed or said that there were no e-mails. Hillary Clinton had a server separate from the government which was not secure. WE KNOW THAT THE SERVER WAS HACKED! Trump’s joke was that perhaps the Russians hacked into the Clinton server and had all of the e-mails etc. etc. Trump is now TWEETING about the AG for recusing himself etc. etc. I think the crux of the issue is frustration that everyone seems to be piling on to the Trump Russia Trump Russia etc. with no real evidence. The whole Russia thing started July 2016 and now as of July 2017 we have definitive statements like = America may now = America introduced to “attempted collusion” = based on preset information “failed collusion” = or there now exists evidence that senior Trump staffers tried unsuccessfully to collude etc. No hard evidence but yet this is all you read and hear from the news.

FISH FOOD: Did it occur to anyone that Trump might be tossing fish food (TWEETS) creating a feeding frenzy to blind everyone to what is actually going on? Perhaps Trump talked to his AG a while ago regarding these investigations. Clinton money – Loretta Lynch meeting with President Clinton – Loretta Lynch directed FBI Comey to call the investigation of Clinton a matter – Democratic HQ Debbie Wasserman Schultz running campaign against Bernie Sanders = Clinton as Secretary of State approving sales of 20% of U.S. uranium sold to Russia = mysteriously the Clinton Foundation gets a $250,000.00 donation etc. etc. A feeding frenzy for the tweets but what is really going on as the press yells KING ME!!.

CHESS: So why start all of this now? (NOTE: Andrew McCabe is the current FBI director and if you remember his wife (Jill McCabe) received $500 thousand from a Clinton ally to run for office). Comey was in charge and was fired by Trump. His deputy McCabe is in charge now. Christopher Wray will assume the reins of the FBI soon so now is a good time.

TRADITIONAL PAIN: Traditional political followers are pained by how Trump does business. Professional political junkies on both sides of the isle are used to back room deals, deals in smoke filled rooms, deals behind closed doors and everything spoken behind everyone else’s back. There was a popular song by the Temptations (Smiling Faces Tell Lies). Watch all of the politicians on TV – they always say my good friends on the other side – my good Democratic or Republican Friend’s and they all smile when they say it. Trump is painful because he does not say it behind closed doors, he just says it.
IN FLYOVER COUNTRY WE CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

Are they Immigrants or Migrants #2

Are they Immigrants or Migrant Workers #2

Are they immigrants? Are they Migrant Workers? Do they want to assimilate and become Americans? Are they illegal immigrants? Are they undocumented aliens? Are they just political pawns?

DEATH: July 22, 2017 a semi in a parking lot in San Antonio, Texas was discovered with 8 dead bodies on board. In 2016 over 2,000 illegal smuggling rings were investigated, with over 1,500 convictions. A wall with controlled access points will save many of these people. (NOTE: One of the survivors on this truck claimed that they paid $5 thousand dollars)

POLITICS: As of March 2017 nearly 500 cities declared that they were sanctuary cities. America is a country of immigrants and as immigrants from around the world came to America they always encouraged their children to learn the common language (English). The difference with Mexican migrant workers is that at different times Mexico has controlled large portions of the Southwest United States. This changed following the Mexican American War which occurred April 1846 – February 1948. Large numbers of Mexicans remained in the United States and have crossed the border as migrant workers continue to migrate today.

SANTUARY: Sanctuary cities, counties and even states have sprung up. I for one am thankful that it appears that President Trump and his administration will enforce existing laws. The 8th U.S. Code section 1373 signed by President Clinton in 1996 address illegal immigration and requires states and municipalities to cooperate with federal authorities on immigration requests. (NOTE: Any person who, knowing that an alien has come to the U.S. in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection such alien in any place, including any building… shall be imprisoned not more than 5 years.” (8 U.S. Code, section 1324) San Francisco actively refuses to cooperate with I.C.E. agents. We have all heard of Kate Steinle who was shot by Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez who had been deported 5 times and had 7 felony convictions. Had President Obama enforced these laws, Kate might be alive today.

VOTES: I had an intelligent young man tell me that Republicans were against immigration because by 2050 the Spanish immigrants will be a larger voting block than white Christian Europeans. This is a very intelligent young man and he continued to spout different statistics etc. The one assumption made in the statistics he referenced, was that the thinking of next generations immigrant would remain the same.

ASSIMULATION: America has always been known as the melting pot of the world. You can come to America and be accepted as an American which is not the case in for example, Europe. In the early 20th century Italian, Greek, Jewish, Hungarian and many other immigrant groups were considered neither black nor white but (in-between). Race is subjective so that consideration is not true today. Following WWII wealthy countries like the U.S. got even richer which are reasons people from around the world are either migrating or immigrating to America. But migration unchecked will just accelerate so it is critical to halt or check migrants and immigrants at the border.

AMERICA ACCEPTS IMMIGRANTS: In recent years the South has two Indian-American Governors and a Kenyan American is in the White House. Children growing up in America almost always assimilate. Not the same in Europe, as frequently children of immigrants import brides, and feel as if they are not accepted into the European culture. In the early 1900’s America welcomed large numbers from Southern Europe as long as they assimilated. Some businesses in America that hired immigrants gave classes on how to be an American.

EUROPE IS NOT A MELTING POT: In America cultures can blend but each group keeps its ethnic identity. I’m German so I love traditional German cuisine but also enjoy foods from other countries. In Europe, if you immigrated even if you are third generation the new country does not always accept you completely. In America, we live side by side together but in Europe it is described as living side by side separately. (NOTE: I know that you can find examples where America is not perfect but in the military I saw Americans living and working side by side together.)

FALSE NARRATIVE: I had someone tell me that we are all looking for the good old days, specifically the 1950’s. Many of us are nostalgic for the good old days because as children we have not been tainted and the reality hoe has not slapped us in the face. The 1950’s was post WWII America which saw threats of nuclear war, the beginnings of strong social upheaval in America not such a good time. So then how about the 1920’s some would say. If you check the headlines for that time frame you have radio, music recordings, automobiles etc. One newspaper headline read = Life was too fast etc. etc. You get the idea we always look back to a better time and that better time was that innocent time of childhood.

THE PLAN: America is a country of immigrants from around the world. America will continue to be but we must have control and people who wish to come to America must assimilate and become Americans. If not America will cease to exist and never forget that there are plenty (to many) Americans that would love to see the demise of America. I believe that the majority of the people that come to America are migrant workers and that ability to cross the border must be controlled and each person must be documented.

Thank you for reading Part #1 & 2 and remember to check out part #3. Part #3 asks the question, are these migrants SLAVES??

ARE THEY IMMIGRANTS or MIGRANTS

Are they Immigrants or Migrant Workers #1

Are they immigrants? Are they Migrant Workers? Do they want to assimilate and become Americans? Are they illegal immigrants? Are they undocumented aliens? Are they just political pawns?

IN THE BEGINNING: After the 1848 Mexican-American war many thousands of Mexican workers set up temporary homes in America and after the crops were harvested moved back to Mexico. From the 1870’s through 1918 farming became big business, there was not enough Mexican workers and Black American’s moved into other industry so the U.S. brought workers from China, Japan and the Philippines in such large numbers that eventually 7 out of 8 farm workers were from Asia. During WWI immigrants from Europe declined so the first guest worker program was established. During WWII there was a worker shortage so Mexican migrant workers were allowed to increase to fill the work shortage gap. In Florida the sugar cane growers imported workers from the Caribbean. (NOTE: The concept of bringing workers from other countries is not new)

TODAY: Black Americans moved into other industries so the H-2A seasonal guest workers program was established. The majority of these workers are from Mexico and Central America.

UNDOCUMENTED OR ILLEGAL: Some say they are undocumented and some say that they are illegal. (Q: If you are undocumented and entered the country without the proper paperwork does that not mean that you are in the country illegally therefore an illegal alien?) The number of illegal aliens in the U.S. range from 70 to 75% depending on your source. Added to this is that now almost 70% of these illegal aliens have remained in the U.S. for over 10 years.

HUMAN BEINGS: Never forget that these undocumented or illegal aliens are people just like you and me. They have families, they go to church, they laugh and cry, they raise families, and they have hopes and dreams just like all people. Yes there is a human element.

AMERICA NEEDS WORKERS: One big lobby group for these migrant workers is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. These guest migrant workers perform domestic duties in the home, work on farms, lawn care etc.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM: Are we a sovereign nation and a nation of laws? If you answer yes to that question then you must agree that all people in the U.S. must be documented. (NOTE: There are false stories claiming that Eisenhower and other presidents deported many millions of Mexicans, NOT TRUE.) Every president in recent history has deported illegal aliens. The key operative word is illegal or undocumented which is essentially the same thing. But we are talking about people not trees, so what to do?

AMNESTY FOR EVERYONE: (“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though some time back they may have entered illegally,” Ronald Reagan said in 1984.) The Simpson-Mazzoll Act signed by President Reagan November 6, 1986, gave amnesty to 3 Million illegal aliens that came to the U.S. prior to 1982. This bill was a failure because a big part of the legislation was that there was to be strict sanctions on employers that hired illegal aliens, but that was stripped out of the bill. The reality is that even if it had been put in, the next batch of politicians could have stripped it out, so America needs something more permanent.

THE WALL: Currently there is about 600 miles of border fence in place and the total length of the border is 1,989 miles between Mexico and the United States. In 1989 there were 15 border walls around the world, and in 2016 there will be 70, so a wall is not a new concept. There are several reasons to construct a border wall. Many people cry that it is not humane, it’s evil and is hateful (this is the one world no borders crowd). Building a complete wall that is properly monitored and patrolled with specific locations for people that wish to enter the United States clearly identified will be better for everyone. America can control who enters and is given a work permit etc. Most important is the humanitarian aspect. Since the year 2000 to October 2014 almost 6,000 migrants died. We owe it to those people and their families to build the wall.

Free College for Everyone Part #2

FREE COLLEGE FOR EVERYONE PART #2
What are the problems with the student loan problem today? Are colleges benefiting from the student loan program as it is today? Are the students benefiting from the student loan program as it is today? Do the students in college work hard for their degree? Do the professors work hard to support students?

YOU SHOULD NOT GO TO COLLEGE: To be clear, I am strongly in favor of education and certainly education beyond high school, but just after high school not everyone is emotionally and mentally ready for a four year commitment to college. There is nothing wrong with getting a job after high school to allow the maturation process to adulthood. The responsibility that is part of holding a job, paying bills, being responsible to be on time each day will give a REALITY PERSPECTIVE that attending school will never give, if you are not ready. REMEMBER: One-half of the students entering college fail to graduate within six years, which is bad enough, so I will not address the college drop outs.

PROBLEM WITH STUDENT LOANS: Liberals and progressives constantly cry about the need for more money for education. They make statements like the youth is our future and we must invest in our future blah – blah – blah.

WHO BENEFITS FROM THE STUDENT LOAN: Students apply for loans so it is a safe assumption that they benefit most from the student loan. Not true. Go to any college website and you will see construction that has been going on since the 70’s, under construction today and planned in the near future. The construction selling point is that the college you are looking at for your child is on the cutting edge. (Q: could this building frenzy be based on guaranteed federal student loan money)

REMEMBER 1976: 1976 the federal government created a law which made the loans “NON-DISCHARGEABLE” which means the loan is not prosecutable under bankruptcy law and at the same time removed the requirement that a parent or grandparent co-sign the loan. Now the 18 year old student signs for the loan. (Q: Do you think that this 18 year old understands what this all means?) This law has mutated into today’s discussion of free college and college loan debt forgiveness. Well that should make us feel good.

COLLEGES BENEFIT MOST: I think that if you were guaranteed money every year you would build and remodel too. November 1965, President Johnson signed the HIGHER EDUCATION ACT OF 1965. Like all feel good legislation it takes a few years for the reality to become clear and by the 70’s the stream of money to colleges in the form of guaranteed student loans became obvious. Look at the number of colleges that started during this time frame and the correlation of this guaranteed money to college construction.

COLLEGE INEFFICIENCY: A college does not have to run like a business and the majority of colleges do not. Departments negotiate deals separately because the individual departments and the college as a whole do not have to answer to a bottom line. I recommend that colleges negotiate a single contract for the entire college and share between departments. Q: Are tenured professors efficient? I believe that once a professor is tenured they no longer need to produce at a high level because it is near impossible to remove them (THE ULTIMATE COLLEGE SAFE SPACE). Q: Is tenure a good practice for our education system to maintain?

DEPENDENT ON FEDERAL $$ INCREASING BUREAUCRACY: Today colleges are very dependent on federal funding, and to ensure that the flow of federal money continues, colleges have increased the number of college employees that support that effort. These well intentioned college employees are not there to help you, they are there to ensure that the college funding increases and remains steady. Full time college administrators from 1993 to 2007 per 100 students in public universities increased by 39% and during the same time frame the numbers of teachers increased by only 18%.

COLLEGE IS HARD WORK:
STUDENT: If you work 40 hours per week and have two weeks’ vacation you work 2,000 hours per year. Studies have shown that today’s college graduates are less literate than in the past. Studies also show that today’s college senior spends an average of 13 hours per week in study. If you add that to time in class it comes to 1,000 to 1,200 hours each year.

PROFESSOR: Basically there are two types of professors, one is primarily an instructor and the other an instructor slash researcher. (NOTE: I have done some teaching (not at college level) and have spent 2 to 3 time as much on class prep as actual classroom with students.) Some studies claim that professors work 12 to 15 hours per week in the class room. Add to that prep time, meeting with students and grading papers and you can easily come to over 40 hours per week. A professor who devotes their time between classroom and research can easily hit the 50 to 60 hours per week. (NOTE: Colleges have holiday breaks, spring break and of course the summers break). The 9 months while school is in session is intense.

WHAT IS THE ANSWER: 1st – stop forcing 16 year old know-it-alls to remain in high school so that they can cause problems for fellow students and teachers. 2nd – stop pushing everyone to go to college right out of high school. 3rd – steer more kids towards trade schools like welding, mechanics, interior design, hairdresser, plumbing or to become an apprentice etc. 4th – force colleges to be run more like a business to eliminate waste. 5th – eliminate federal involvement (let each state run the colleges) so that the college becomes answerable to the student and not the federal government.

REVAMP STUDENT LOANS: Remove federal government involvement. If money is given or guaranteed it should be in the form of block grants to the state and let each state control the process. Loans to students should be based on the 5C’s. This would help the student to better understand what they are getting into and force the student to meet annual review qualifications ensuring greater success. Review, revamp, and consider repealing the 1976 non-dischargeable debt law.

CONCLUSION: The student and not the college must be the focus. To be clear, the federal government is not the only cause but as the federal government moved in with increasing regulations and guaranteed funds, the student stopped being the customer and the college became the customer. The college does not really focus on the student and their needs, the college focuses on the source of money and that is the federal government. This painful change must occur or college tuition will never stop growing at more than 3 times the cost of living each year.

MOST IMPORTANT IF WE DO NOT CHANGE THIS THE STANDING OF AMERICAN STUDENTS IN THE WORLD WILL CONTINUE TO DECREASE.

FREE COLLEGE FOR EVERYONE

College Education is not a Constitutional Right

Why do they think a college education is a Constitutional right? Why do so many think that a college education should be free? This is what is being taught at our institutions of higher learning, plus Bernie Sanders (Feeling Da Burn 2016) brought this topic to the forefront. THE MAN OWES ME concept has been fermenting on college campuses since the 60’s & 70’s.

PROTECTED ACADEMIA: You know the saying, those that can do and those that can’t teach. And today we protect those that can’t with tenure. Originally established in the late 1700s to protect academic freedom at religious schools (which are less than a fifth of the 4,703 U.S. colleges today), tenure has morphed into a guaranteed JOB FOR LIFE! Tenure is expensive, it is estimated that a college ties up between $10 and $12 million to support a single tenured professor for a 35 year career.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS AT FAULT: The real culprit in rising college costs is the Federal Government. The public assumes that it is the banks fault and the left leaning progressives and the media never hesitates to paint banks as evil. In 2010, President Obama signed legislation ending federal subsidies to private banks that had been giving student loans, which means that the federal government is now the lender of choice for most students. In the beginning the federal government set limits on the amount a student could borrow. The average debt for the class of 2016 is $37,172.00 which of course varies depending on the college you attend but it is a 6% increase from 2015.

WWII GENERATION: When the WWII generation went to Yale the cost was $450.00 per year which equates to $7,200.00 per year in 2013 dollars. By 1970 tuition had not changed that much and about 68% of federal money to students was in the form of Pell Grants. For 2017 the cost is estimated to be $64 thousand per year (NOTE: THIS IS TUITION, BOOKS, HOUSING, and LIVING EXPENSES). What has caused this increase?

BIG GOVERNMENT: I believe that the cause is our well-intentioned BIG government. This comparison is a few years old but clearly shows the trend. Average cost per year in 1980 was $3,449 and in 2013 $9,733. This consistent increase started in the 1970’s increases each year at about 6%, which is much faster than the cost of living increases. The problem today is that there are a higher percentage of college graduates competing for a smaller percentage of jobs.

EARN THE MONEY YOURSELF: For decades college graduates have used the GI bill which is earned simply by giving a few years of service to your country while serving in the military. For those that qualify the Military Academies is another way to gain a college education.

TUITION SHOULD BE EARNED NOT EXPECTED: Ownership of a house or a car is not a given, if you qualify you will pay for it. Let’s apply the same principle using the 5C’s to student loans Character, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Conditions and Purpose.
CHARACTER: Does the student loan applicant have good character? Good class behavior, good attendance and helpful to other students, community, family and friends.
CAPACITY & CONDITIONS: What is the capacity to repay the loan? What is the profession and what is the employment expectation after graduation? What is the average annual salary of the profession? Where do they plan to live after graduation? (EXAMPLE: average pay in New York is more than in Green Bay Wisconsin but the cost of living in NY is also much higher than in GB)
CAPITAL & COLLATERAL: What is the student’s net worth? (NOTE: Certainly Mom and Dad will co-sign but the student is the true receiver of the loan.) Student capital is SAT & ACT scores, GPA in school, extracurricular activity in school and the community. After a year in college the activities and GPA of the college transcript would be presented.
PURPOSE: What is the purpose of the loan? Is the purpose a sound and principled purpose? (NOTE: This is a reality check.)

WHY CONSIDER THE 5Cs: The student is forced to look at things through a reality lens. Prior to this the counselor at school implies that college is the answer and the profession the student chose is the best (ROSE COLORED GLASSES). It will cause the student and the parents to review the student’s career choice. This is a performance based loan so the borrower (student) is compelled to do well in school because doing well affects the interest rates on the loan.

GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT: My problem with government involvement as it is today is that it is just guaranteed money. Not so much for the student but mostly for the college. Students should not have to pay interest or make payments while in school so if the government wants to remain involved the government can pay the interest while the student is in college. If the student works while in college and makes payments these payments comes directly off the principle. (NOTE: JULY 2017 the current student loan debt is $ 1,400,000,000,000.00 that is $1.4 trillion.) THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH!

STUDENT EARNS THE MONEY: For decades college graduates have used the GI bill which is earned simply by giving a few years of service to the military. For those that qualify the Military Academies is another way to gain a college education.

COLLEGE IS A GUARANTEE: Do you remember the board game life where you had to choose a career which then gave you an income each time you passed the pay-day square? A college degree guaranteed a much larger salary, and that mind set is what has been and is still pushed to high school graduates today. A college degree guarantees nothing, but successful schooling beyond high school demonstrates to an employer initiative and drive. Additional education demonstrates to a potential employer that you are trainable and the assumption is that you can read and comprehend.

FOUNDING FATHER Noah Webster, On the Education of Youth in America, 1788:

“Every child in America should be acquainted with his own country. He should read books that furnish him with ideas that will be useful to him in life and practice. As soon as he opens his lips, he should rehearse the history of his own country.”
