Are they Immigrants or Migrant Workers #2
Are they immigrants? Are they Migrant Workers? Do they want to assimilate and become Americans? Are they illegal immigrants? Are they undocumented aliens? Are they just political pawns?
DEATH: July 22, 2017 a semi in a parking lot in San Antonio, Texas was discovered with 8 dead bodies on board. In 2016 over 2,000 illegal smuggling rings were investigated, with over 1,500 convictions. A wall with controlled access points will save many of these people. (NOTE: One of the survivors on this truck claimed that they paid $5 thousand dollars)
POLITICS: As of March 2017 nearly 500 cities declared that they were sanctuary cities. America is a country of immigrants and as immigrants from around the world came to America they always encouraged their children to learn the common language (English). The difference with Mexican migrant workers is that at different times Mexico has controlled large portions of the Southwest United States. This changed following the Mexican American War which occurred April 1846 – February 1948. Large numbers of Mexicans remained in the United States and have crossed the border as migrant workers continue to migrate today.
SANTUARY: Sanctuary cities, counties and even states have sprung up. I for one am thankful that it appears that President Trump and his administration will enforce existing laws. The 8th U.S. Code section 1373 signed by President Clinton in 1996 address illegal immigration and requires states and municipalities to cooperate with federal authorities on immigration requests. (NOTE: Any person who, knowing that an alien has come to the U.S. in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection such alien in any place, including any building… shall be imprisoned not more than 5 years.” (8 U.S. Code, section 1324) San Francisco actively refuses to cooperate with I.C.E. agents. We have all heard of Kate Steinle who was shot by Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez who had been deported 5 times and had 7 felony convictions. Had President Obama enforced these laws, Kate might be alive today.
VOTES: I had an intelligent young man tell me that Republicans were against immigration because by 2050 the Spanish immigrants will be a larger voting block than white Christian Europeans. This is a very intelligent young man and he continued to spout different statistics etc. The one assumption made in the statistics he referenced, was that the thinking of next generations immigrant would remain the same.
ASSIMULATION: America has always been known as the melting pot of the world. You can come to America and be accepted as an American which is not the case in for example, Europe. In the early 20th century Italian, Greek, Jewish, Hungarian and many other immigrant groups were considered neither black nor white but (in-between). Race is subjective so that consideration is not true today. Following WWII wealthy countries like the U.S. got even richer which are reasons people from around the world are either migrating or immigrating to America. But migration unchecked will just accelerate so it is critical to halt or check migrants and immigrants at the border.
AMERICA ACCEPTS IMMIGRANTS: In recent years the South has two Indian-American Governors and a Kenyan American is in the White House. Children growing up in America almost always assimilate. Not the same in Europe, as frequently children of immigrants import brides, and feel as if they are not accepted into the European culture. In the early 1900’s America welcomed large numbers from Southern Europe as long as they assimilated. Some businesses in America that hired immigrants gave classes on how to be an American.
EUROPE IS NOT A MELTING POT: In America cultures can blend but each group keeps its ethnic identity. I’m German so I love traditional German cuisine but also enjoy foods from other countries. In Europe, if you immigrated even if you are third generation the new country does not always accept you completely. In America, we live side by side together but in Europe it is described as living side by side separately. (NOTE: I know that you can find examples where America is not perfect but in the military I saw Americans living and working side by side together.)
FALSE NARRATIVE: I had someone tell me that we are all looking for the good old days, specifically the 1950’s. Many of us are nostalgic for the good old days because as children we have not been tainted and the reality hoe has not slapped us in the face. The 1950’s was post WWII America which saw threats of nuclear war, the beginnings of strong social upheaval in America not such a good time. So then how about the 1920’s some would say. If you check the headlines for that time frame you have radio, music recordings, automobiles etc. One newspaper headline read = Life was too fast etc. etc. You get the idea we always look back to a better time and that better time was that innocent time of childhood.
THE PLAN: America is a country of immigrants from around the world. America will continue to be but we must have control and people who wish to come to America must assimilate and become Americans. If not America will cease to exist and never forget that there are plenty (to many) Americans that would love to see the demise of America. I believe that the majority of the people that come to America are migrant workers and that ability to cross the border must be controlled and each person must be documented.
Thank you for reading Part #1 & 2 and remember to check out part #3. Part #3 asks the question, are these migrants SLAVES??
